Beginner question

I am about to change my reservoir for the first time. I am running a dutch bucket system that I have made out of 2 gallon buckets that a restaurant supply company was going to through away. I am using a mixture of perlite and Coconut fiber as my growing medium.

Should I flush the growing medium with warm water every time I change out the reservoir?

I apologize for my spelling.

I've never needed to do that, although it probably won't hurt anything....

how often are you changing out the buckets?

I have read on commercial site that when a flush is needed, that it is not good to use warm water - they where saying that when flushing, use a fresh mixture of solution, just like you would feed your plants. This is to prevent stress from the just water uptake...The flush is flush to drain and do not reuse...

I say flush the plants with warm water. It helps flush out salts which might have accumulated.

I do this with each nutrient change and have never had a problem.

I flush with pH adjusted 5.8 water. As stated by someone else previously the purpose in flushing is to remove the buildup of salts as well as to rid your medium of excess nutrients that might be causing nute burn or lockout of other nutrients. Just make sure you use pH adjusted water and you will be just fine. Peace
