greenhouse using 1/2" EMT

3 Attachment(s)
I'm building a greenhouse using 1/2" EMT (electrical conduit) from HD. I'm too cheap to buy the connectors so I bought a couple lengths of the 3/4" to cut up and use as connectors. I made a pipe bender to bend the hoops and attached 3 bent hoops together to get a span of ~23' with a height of ~8'. You can adjust it by moving the ends closer or farther apart. The picture shows most of the hoops up. I have 10 hoops at 3' spacing. The problem where I live is the wind.

Wow, looks great! That looks like it could be in my corner of the world in SE washington. I may steal your idea of building a bender as I also have to deal with wind; live right under the big windmils and they put them there for a reason.

The picture doesn't show it but there's a 2" piece of 3/4 PVC at the end of the angle iron so I know where to line up the end of the EMT. It bends back the other way a little so I turn the pipe around and bend it again. As long as it looks similar to the other ones when I pile them all up. I also use a real small drill bit to start the holes because a bigger drill bit walks too easy. Then I take a bigger metal drill bit to make the holes big enough for the sheet metal screws. For now I'm just going to throw some tarp over the frame to see what it looks like. Don't know how I'm going to cover the ends up yet.

I just realized I should have drilled the screws in from inside out - that way when I pull the plastic over the top it won't rip.
