Sterilization

What good does boiling do to lava rocks? How can this affect toxicity? JohnS

Sterilization is important between each harvest to rid your medium of fertilizing salts build up. You only have to boil the lava rocks the first time you use them. Then you only have to use a 10 percent bleach solution after that between harvests.
