i bought a mh light 400 w for $30 at the local hydro shop then bought a 400w multi tap warehouse light
ballast from craigslist for $30 - i then wired in an extension cord to the ballast and thats it, total cost with cord about $65 bucks, very inexpensive compared to the true " grow light" but it works the same, it has been in use for a few months now and no problems to report.
