Default Basil leaves turning brown Kratky

Hi Folks,

Having problems growing basil with kratky method. Battled root rot all summer and lost a ton of plants. Now that winter is coming they seem to be doing better (lower solution temps I guess).

I'm looking at the browning and thinking it's either burned leaves or too the solution is drowning the basil and causing the plant cells to rupture. Filling the solution about 1/2 way up. Just refilling when it gets lot. The big ones in the glass jar are the last of the originals that survived through the summer. The smaller ones are cuttings from the big plants. The one with great root growth is a cutting off the big ones. Also growing some sage but it's struggling as well. Also getting what looks like to be burns / overfill explosions) on those herbs too (see bottom of the herb - maybe its just normal dead leaves b/c they aren't getting enough sun?).

Two one gallon jugs (milk bottles) – one gallon mix.
Mix is - [Masterblend 4-18-38 - 2 Grams], [Calcium Nitrate - 2 Grams], [Epsom Salt - 1 Gram]

Could someone please help me figure out what might be going on with the plants and a good course of treatment?

Should I pull off the burned leaves so the plant can focus on the remaining ones?

Should I cut the roots off the big plants and put them in solution, hoping they will grow new roots?

Thanks for your help!
