Default Need info on strawberries in tower

My tower strawberries were doing OK, but now the leaves are turning brown. I showed a picture of one of the plants at my local nursery and they said they were distressed due to the heat. It has been in the upper 80's here in Florida, so is that possible?

I have been setting my timer at 15 min on and 15 min off during the daylight hours and on a couple of times during the night. Is that OK for strawberries?

Ken

Hello khawn,
Heat stress is defiantly possible. A lot depends on the verity of strawberry's your growing. Some are more tolerant to heat than others. Some varieties even prefer at least some shade. If the sun is to strong you may want to use some shade cloth. Also the water temperature will cause (and/or contribute to) heat stress. I wrote this article about nutrient temperatures to help "Nutrient Solution Temperature is Important"
