Question Soda pop bottle wick aeroponics

Hey there,
I'm helping 4 of my colleagues at school set up miniature hydroponic wick systems for their classrooms. We plan on growing and experimenting. I have a question for you. What do you recommend I use for the wick? I've read that nylon rope is the best thing to use. Is that correct? Wish me luck. I'm trying to spread the appreciation of using hydroponics as a means of growing food.

As a teacher, I happened to have a ton of felt and it does work beautifully. Thank you sooooo much.

Default It worked!!!

Here's my soda pop bottle tomato. The felt has worked wonderfully. In fact, it went so well that I'm going to make a herb garden using soda bottles. I'll label each bottle and just place each bottle under my homemade grow light. (thanks to the fellow who shared that info). My grow tents is completely full so this will allow me to add a few more plants to my evergrowing garden.
