Default Newbie to hydro

Hi All.

I have been stabbing blindly in the dark recently trying to grow hydropnic lettuce.

I hope to share my experience with all here.

I built an outdoor ebb and flow system in 4" sewer drain pipe.

20 ft Long 24 4X3" Cups

Moved germinations yesterday to outdoor bed. Planted 25 in grow blocks. Lost 5 to a worm pest of some sort. Put 19 germs in the bed. The pebbles were 122 deg F. I think I have about 5 good plants left. The rest look fried.

I am into the nutrients and all that stuff... Trying to figure it out.

Peace and thanks for all advice here.

Default Lettuce is gone

A few plants are hanging on but the sun is just baking the clay pebbles and frying the plants. I need cooler air to get the plant large enough to canopy over the cup of pebbles

Planted 25 1" grow blocks of Dwarf Siberian Kale.. I have leaves on the germinations in two days! I am hoping to get them in the outdoor system as soon as possible and think there will be cooler weather. Maybe I will get some baby kale.

Can anyone advise on what nutrients I should use for the Kale?

I have these:

Thumbs up heavy 16 nutrients

I've always heard Heavy 16 is the brand to go to for this, I've had really good success using their products. I'm not totally sure which option would be best in your case, but my money is on the Veg A&B:

Or, this one is their 'standard' option:

hope this helps.

Default On year 2.. Having success

My lettuce is growing very fast

I need insulation on the tubes and reservoir.. Thinking about drips in the center of the cups to keep stems cool...

We have not had an immediate summer this year here. We are getting some moderate weather on the Eastern Shore of MD.. We have not needed Air Conditioning in the house yet.

The sun screen is not deployed but helps on hot sunny days..

I need white clay pebble!!!
