Default CFL E39 Mogul base in a regular (medium) base ?

Well as the subject asks, I'm looking at some cfl bulbs that have an E39 Mogul and it looks similar to standard medium but then there is talk of a ballast so it is probably not for a standard medium.
If anyone can clarify that would be appreciated.

TIA
Stuart

A Mogul base is a larger socket than a standard base. cfl will have the ballast in the base of the bulb.

So it's okay to use these with an adapter to standard ? I see the adapters, just not sure if I'd need something else.

I am not sure, I would try it and check to make sure everything is ok. I am no expert here but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Since it's a CFL it shouldn't draw to much power and overheat the socket.

That's what makes it a compact florescent light (cfl) rather than just a regular florescent light. The ballast in a regular florescent light is in the light fixture instead of the bulb itself.
