Without seeing a picture, I'd have to say you might be expierencing Nutrient Burn (nutrient solution is to strong)
Do you have a way to check the EC/TDS of your solution?
The green Algae/or Moss on top of your grow medium is ok...that shouldn't affect anything unless it carpets over the entire top and prevents air to flow thru to the roots.
