I've run it like that before, and it worked fine, currently I'm running on for thirty minutes off for 3 hours, and it still seems to work perfectly fine.
I'd say the 30/3hr works better, but I think it's just because I've added HPS lighting to my 11 plant setup thats making the difference.
It might make a difference to what your growing also.
What are you growing in your 11 plant setup?
