1700\'s British wood plow plough plane for coachmaker\'s curved work w/ Ward iron:
$175.00

You are offerding on one interesting 18th century (1700\'s) British wood plow or plough plane as pictured.

It is marked with owner \"A WEAVERS\" on both ends of the body, and the iron is marked \"WARD\".

It has been modified, probably in the 1700\'s, for use by a coach maker or someone similar for curved work. The fence is rounded on the bottom surface, and the skate has been shortened on both ends to allow it to gently follow a curve.

It has a number of interesting features in addition to the coach maker\'s modifications:

--- the wide flat chamfers on the left side of the body, with wide chamfers cut at a different angle on the right side.

--- the very large arm wedges

--- the very simple arms, with no trim or decoration on the ends.

--- each arm and riser is one piece of wood, not two joined together

--- the fence, which is attached with what appear to be hand wrought wood screws

--- the skate is riveted, not screwed, to the body

--- and the depth stop is a simple friction fit, with no provision for locking it in place.

The primary wedge appears to be an old replacement. Other than that, condition is fair to good, and showing lots of wear from use. Both risers have started to split from the arms, and a previous owner has put a nail in each one to help hold them together. There are a scattering of worm holes, and quite a bit of wear to the right hand ends of the arms and arm wedges, and some damage at each end of the fence in just the outer left corners. The arm wedges will move, the arms will move with a bit of effort, but the depth stop is really snug.

SHIPPING: 3 pounds. International shipping will be by Priority Mail, which is very expensive. (see below if you are offerding outside the US)

I sell what I enjoy, and I enjoy antique woodworking tools, I enjoy photography, and I enjoy books! The queue of items to list is overflowing, so please keep watching my sales as I have LOTS more to list!

How do you best search through my listings to find more of what you are looking for? Perhaps you want to look at more tools, and not camera items, or vice versa. Click on the visit store link in the upper right hand corner of this page, and it will take you to a very detailed series of categories, where you can quickly get to what you want to find.

You might ask:How can I know when you startnew listings? The answer: please click the\"sign up fornewsletter\" link that is just above and to the left of this description, and you will get an emailevery Friday with my new listings, as well as an emailwheneverI put any of my Buy It Nowitems on sale.

ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on , and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and sales with pictures only of the left side becausethe right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you offer, and especially before you receive it in the mail.I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. What goes around, comes around.

RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn\'t need a return policy. However, that doesn\'t mean that I won\'t make an occasional mistake. Please offer with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you. And if you have made an error, and bought the wrong size, for example, I will still take care of you (but I’ll let you pay the shipping!).

SHIPPING INSIDE THE US: I would rather that you spend your money on my stuff, and not on shipping. So I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based on what is the least expensive, and what is needed to protect the item. I package well, and have a great track record of getting everything to each buyer, and getting it there in one piece. I use the US Post Office for everything, and I often find it is cheaper to use their Priority Mail flat rate boxes for heavier items (see below).

WASHINGTON STATE buyers: I hate to do this, but if I ship to a Washington address, no matter where you actually live, I either have to charge Washington State sales tax,or receive a valid resale form.

sales: I won’t end an sale listing early to sell it to you directly. As a buyer, I really dislike going back at the end of an sale to offer, only to discover that the seller had ended the sale early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you.

WINNING MULTIPLE sales: Wherever it makes sense, I will combine your purchases to save on shipping. But, after the sales are over, you have to WAIT for me to put together your invoice, as the computer cannot do that automatically.

USPS POSTAGE RATE INCREASE AS OF January 26, 2014:Justabout everything went up effective January 26, 2014 – domestic and international, but especially international rates.

USPS PRIORITY MAIL FLAT RATE BOXES FOR HEAVY OR MULTIPLE ITEMS: The US Post Office has two sizes of their medium Priority Mail Flat Rate box (one size is 11-7/8\" x 13-5/8\" x 3-3/8\" and the other is11\" x 8-1/2\" x 5-1/2\"), plus one size of their large Priority Mail flat Rate box (12\" x 12\" x 5-1/2\"), and one size of their small Priority Mail Flat Rate box (8-5/8\" x 5-3/8\" x 1-5/8\"). For each size the postage stays the same regardless of weight, with a 70 pound limit within the US and a 20 pound limitfor international shipments.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: This gets much more complicated, and costly. I use the US Post Office for everything, and essentially there are now two choices – First Class Mail and Priority Mail.

INTERNATIONAL FIRST CLASS MAIL: This choice is much less expensive than Priority, but it can be very, very slow, and the tracking is very limited. And it can only be used for small envelopes or packages that weigh less than 4 pounds. Light items weighing a few ounces can be shipped overseas for about $10.00, and even less to Canada. But it can be very slow, and once I have mailed your purchase, there is nothing I can do to make it get to you any faster. The delay can be getting through customs, and again there is nothing I can do to make it go through customs any faster.

INTERNATIONAL PRIORITY MAIL: This choice is more expensive than First Class, but is quicker and the tracking is much better. And there are no limits on size or weight, and the flat rate boxes can be used for international shipments. The minimum rate for a package with tracking and insurance is the one pound rate, and that will cost about $32 to Canada and about $46 overseas. The rates go up from there by weight and size. Five pounds to Canada is about $41, and five pounds overseas is about $62.A medium Priority Mail flat rate box is usually a few dollars more than the 5 pound rate to either Canada or overseas,to give you some idea of what the shipping will cost. If you aren’t sure, please ask before offerding.

MY POLICY ON INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS WITH A VALUE UNDER $20.00: I will ship most of these via First Class Mail, unless they are too large or too heavy.

MY POLICY ON INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS WITH A VALUE OVER $20.00: Once the value goes over $20, everything goes Priority Mail. I know that is more expensive, but the tracking and insurance protection for me as the shipper is so much better with Priority, that I have been forced to use Priority for anything over $20. If you have bought several items that are each under $20, but add up to over $20, I may elect to ship them individually via First Class.

MY POLICY ON CUSTOMS DECLARATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to offerding or buying. And I will not reduce the value, declare your purchase to be a gift, or in any way be dishonest on the customs declaration. If I were willing to be dishonest on the customs declaration, shouldn’t you be worried that I might be willing to be dishonest somewhere else?

PACKAGING: Please check my response -- I package well. I figure if you take the time to purchase from me, then I can take the time to package it well, and not just throw it into a cereal box with a scrap of newspaper.

I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting!

If you have questions about anything I have listed, especially about how to pay for your new treasure, please ask. Good luck!
