1855 $50 Gold Kellogg & Co. Fifty Dollar Restrike Gem Uncirculated PCGS
S.S. Central America
Issued under the authority of the California Historical Society. The coin was struck from authentic Kellogg & Humbert ingots recovered from the wreck of the SS Central America and contains 1309 grains of .887 fine gold (2.418922 AGW). Transfer dies have been prepared from the original 1855 Kellogg & Co. dies engraved by Ferdinand Gruner.
This particular piece was struck on September 12, 2001 (the day after the WTC attacks). It is a Gem Uncirculated example, not Proof. The Proof is more common. A mintage limit of 5,000 was ordered for these restrikes.
The coin will be shipped in the beautiful presentation box as seen in the pictures. A COA and catalog are included as well.
