Rare, Fancy Grade \"A\" Leopold Partners Desk Description

RAND-LEOPOLD DESK COMPANYDESCRIPTION

This is a CLASS \"A\" Grade, Fancy Partner’s Desk as displayed in Rand-Leopold catalog dated 1891. Designed and built by Leopold Desk Company of Iowa whose motto was “Built on Honor to Endure”.Desk measures 66” across (left to right)and 58” across from where the partners would sit. The chairwell openings are 23” across and this desk stands about 31” tall. These Fancy GRADE “A” Cathedral Panel Partner’s Desks were built in 1891 in Burlington, Iowa. Rand-Leopold was the companies name up until about 1910 when it was changed to just the LEOPOLD DESK COMPANY. This beauty is all heavily Quartersawn Oak and weighs about 340lbs. according to the literature. All the drawers slide in and out with ease and all are finished in the inside just like the outside of this desk. Even thefour-(4) Breadboard Pullouts are QuartersawnOak!We’ve owned this desk for more than 35 years and are moving to a new home and will not have room for this beauty. When I took the photo’s there was a little dust on the top of the desk. You can see one little spot on the top that is a water stain, which is about a 3” oval shape. This desk comes apart very easily with about 16 (new) heavy duty screws for the top, and two screws at the bottom cross-brace. The Pedestals themselves are heavy, but easy to handle. Of course the Desk Top itself is heavy so I suggest two people handle that. The top aligns very easily on dowel pins atop the Pedestals and there is also recessed areas under the top where metal clamp brackets meet and match the pedestal for a very secure fastening. It is well thought out and very strong and secure. This thing is like a Tank!Let me know if you have any questions or inquiries? Glad to help out.I\'ve tried to take photo\'s from every angle and you can see that in every possible place this beauty displays Quartersawn Oak everywhere. I\'ve only found, or known about two others like this over the last 35 years. One back in Nebraska at an antique dealer wanting $14,950, and one in New York asking $12,500. By the way, when these desks sold new in 1891 the price was $1,250 for the Fancy Grade “A” version. You just cannot find fantastic craftsmanship like this anymore, especially something as Gorgeous and Rare as this. This is a Quartersawn Oak lovers dream!Shipping will have to be arranged through the Buyer and we’re happy to assist however possible. There is no rush, and the desk will be stored inside our home, but covered, just as you see it in the photo’s.
