1895 KENTON CAST IRON HORSE DRAWN FIRE LADDER TRUCK TOY:
$462

Very rare and wonderful, original, 1890's, Cast Iron Horse Drawn Fire Engine Ladder Truck manufactured by Kenton Hardware Co. This VERY early, Kenton Cast Iron Ladder Wagon measures approx. 20” long overall and 6" tall (to the top of the head of the original, removable driver figure) and 4" wide. The Fire Ladder Truck is 100% original and complete retaining its 2 original wooden ladders and 2 original, silhouette type drivers. The surface paint on all parts is 100% original and every well preserved. We have been told that this Horse Drawn Fire Ladder Truck was among the very earliest Toys manufactured by Kenton in the late 19th century. This wonderful, 100% original, Cast Iron Toy came to us as part of a small collection of cast iron toys that we will be selling over the next few weeks on . Founded in 1890 the Kenton Lock Manufacturing Co. began producing toys in 1894 with a line of horse-drawn fire equipment, banks, and toy stoves. We have been told that the Ladder Wagon / Fire Truck offered here was one of the earliest Toys manufactured by the company. Renamed Kenton Hardware in 1900, the company became part of mammoth the National Novelty Corp. merger in 1903 and continued its toy line under the name Wing Mfg. Co. Involved in several unsuccessful takeovers, Kenton eventually emerged as a separate unit, the Kenton Hardware Co., and again produced toys successfully from 1920-1935.

This wonderful, 1890's, Kenton Horse Drawn Fire Engine Ladder Wagon Toy is in very good to excellent condition. It is 100% original and has never been repainted, touched-up, or restored. All parts retain between 80% and 90% of the original surface paint wand the Ladder Truck retains its original wooden ladders and its two, original driver figures. One of the ladders does have some damage at one end (see the scans below) but otherwise there are no crack, breaks, chips, repairs or physical damage of any kind to any of the other elements of this fantastic Toy Fire Engine.

A very rare and attractive, 1890’s, Cast Iron Horse Drawn, Toy Fire Engine Ladder Truck manufactured by Kenton Hardware Co. and a fantastic addition to any Collection!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges and the "Detailed Seller Rating" Star System:

The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.

We have NEVER requested response from our customers as we were taught that "fishing for compliments" was impolite but the new Detailed Rating System has put us in a rather tight spot. Most buyers are unaware that bases a monthly fee discount on a Seller's "Star" rating. A monthly average of "4.6 Stars" (in any one of the four "Star" categories) costs us approximately $400 in additional Fees - that's $400 above what we would pay if we had a "4.8 Star" average in all 4 "Star" categories!! As a consequence we hope you do not find us rude to ask that if you are happy with our items, our service, and our packing & shipping please be sure to use the "Star" rating system and remember that a "5 Star" rating is the only way we can qualify for 's fee reduction program.
