1920s Turturro \"Peanut\" Soprano Ukulele & Original Case. Winner. Patent Pending.:
$1395.00

Travel back in time with this vintage ukulele. Built by Nicola Turturro, it is a genuine Turturro peanut ukulele. Turturro (1872-1953) was a renowned instrument builder, based out of Brooklyn in the 1920s. He built unique instruments of his own patented design. Some of his instruments, including a peanut uke like this one, are part of the collection of NYC\'s Metropolitan Museum, because of not only the odd designs but fine craftsmanship. This is a pre-patent peanut ukulele. Turturro applied for the peanut uke patent in 1922. It was granted in 1928. So this uke is from somewhere between 1922 and 1928. It has the familiar Turturro/NYC stamp on the back of the peghead, along with a patent pending stamp. On top of the Turturro stamp is a \"Winner\" decal. I believe that \"Winner\" was a brand logo of the Manhattan Band Instrument Company in the 1920s. It seems that this uke is all original, including some very old gut strings that I haven\'t the heart to change. Black/white binding around the top. Single white binding around the soundhole. The back is wild peanut-shaped ribs. It is in good to fine condition. The top is flat. It is structurally very sound. Cosmetically, there is a scratch.scuff on the top on the edge on one side of the bridge. There are some scratches on the pegehead, as well as the ribs. There is some wear on the neck between the nut and second fret, but not much. It really is a gorgeous instrument. Comes with what-I-believe is that original cloth case. The case is also in good condition with a working handle and zipper. It\'s a great find. I actually, swear to gosh, found it at a local flea market two weeks ago. Check out online for photos of the 1920s vaudeville musical midget act, the Dolls, one of whom played a Turturro peanut uke (and two others played a Turturro turnover). For USA orders, shipping is free. It will be shipped in brand new cardboard instrument box with plenty of new 1/2\" bubble wrap. Questions? Please check out my store, “The 1970 Time Travel Trailer,” for more cool vintage stuff, including a bunch of vintage guitars (and a few ukuleles, banjos, fiddles, mandolins and amps).
