Up for sale is a very nice Parker Parkette Junior with a Black cap and barrel. This is the Junior model. Parker also made a Deluxe model - fancier trim. The date stamp is very visible on the barrel, \'26\' so 2nd quarter of 1936. The Parkette was eliminated from the Parker catalog in 1939, and the line was replaced by the Parkette Zephyr and Writefine in 1940.
This model, and the one just before it, the Parker Parco, were Parker\'s first foray into the lever filling pen market, a filling style developed by their arch rival Sheaffer, and still quite popular at the time, and Parker was not one to ignore market demand. I installed a new a new ink sac, so this pen is ready to write.
The barrel imprint is easy to read: \'PARKETTE Made by Parker U.S.A 26\'. This 1936 Parkette typically came with a Gold Plated steel nib, but this one has a 14K Solid Gold nib although this is not a Parker nib. That said, it is actually a very nice 14K nib with a nice ball of iridium on the tip. This is a very good looking nib. It glides over the paper quite smoothly. I dipped it in ink to create the writing sample and it lays down about a \'F\' line and is rather stiff. This nib is actually larger than a Parkette 14K nib and I think looks better on the pen than the smaller Parkette nib. The Gold-Filled clip, lever and cap band look good. One of the cap bands is missing. I don\'t really see any visible brassing, just some micro pitting.
No cap jewels on this pen. The cap has lots of tiny scratches from normal use, as does the barrel. I can also see what appears to be lots of teeny tiny nibble marks on the end of the barrel.
