Rare and wonderful, Large Size, 1940\'s American Teddy Bear with glass eyes, jointed arms, legs and head and excelsior stuffing dressed in a fantastic, World War II era United States Navy Sailor outfit.
This charming Teddy Bear measures approx 26\" tall and features a curly wool body with shaved nose, original, felt pads, original brown glass eyes with black pupils and vertically stitched nose with two stitches dropped to form an inverted \"y\" shaped mouth. He has disc joints at the neck, armpits and hips and is fully stuffed with Excelsior. He is dressed in a simply fantastic, World War II era Navy Seaman’s outfit with an embroidered patch on the left shoulder, mother of pearl buttons on the trousers and a wonderful Navy Seaman’s watch cap. We are unsure if the outfit is original to the Teddy Bear or if it was a toddler’s outfit that was used to dress the Bear after its original owner outgrew the clothes. In either event the clothing is of the same period as the Teddy Bear and the Bear as dressed is simply charming!!!
This very large size, 1940\'s American Teddy Bear is quite well preserved and in very good condition. He is 100% original with no damage or repairs of any kind. Although he is lightly soiled, his plush is well flocked and not significantly worn anywhere. His felt pads are all very well preserved and his stuffing is solid and well preserved giving him a nice, rotund body shape. The U.S. Navy uniform is intact and complete but unevenly faded as can be seen in the scans below. Overall this wonderful, 75 year old Teddy is well preserved and ready to find a new, loving home!!
