1946-48 CHRYSLER SPITFIRE 6 FLAT HEAD ENGINE. COMPLETE PROFESSIONAL REBUILD:
$4200.00

Mopar Chrysler 251 cu. flat head six \"Spitfire\" engine completely rebuilt by a professional auto machine shop. An engine that was going to be used in a 1948 Chrysler Windsor but the car was sold. New pistons, valves, valve springs & seats, guides, keepers, rod bearings, main bearings, resurfaced head & block, crankshaft, bored/honed, new complete gasket set, resurface block, NOS oil pump (a nice find), timing chain & sprocket, quality engine base paint, and more. Basically everything was restored except the camshaft was good and did not need replacing.
Comes as shown with oil filter body, intake/exhaust manifolds, breather tube, water pump and pulley, vibration damper, thermostat housing, and fuel pump. Also includes but not show in the photos is the oil filler tube and oil cap.I\'ve had this engine stored at a climate controlled restoration business for a number of years. Little dusty from storage. Time to sell. Selling as is with no warranty or refunds but keep in mind no expense was spared in the rebuilding of this engine. Quality work was done as I was planning to use this engine for my own car restoration. I cannot see a serial number on the engine block to know the year and car it was from. The original engine block had a serial number that started with C-38.
6/29/17 **New additional information on this engine. I\'ve had several questions about the engine serial number so I have added a couple new pictures to the listing. The original engine block for my 1948 Chrysler Windsor was not good enough to rebuild. The mechanic( a good friend of mine) from the shop I used went through 9 different blocks testing them until he found this one which was in excellent shape to use. You will find that most engines from junk cars are just that, junk, plain and simple. Either too worn out to bore out for new pistons or the blocks have fine to large cracks from age or freezing temperatures and other problems. Where this block was found I can\'t remember because it was rebuilt around 1998. My mechanic friend has since passed away a few years ago so I have no way to track where the block was found. The engine block was found in Michigan and probably through people he knew that had vintage auto parts. He was well liked and had many resources for parts from people in the business. Good to NOS parts and nothing else is what he always looked for to repair or build a huge numbers of cars in his lifetime.
He eventually rebuilt a Dodge 218 cu. flat head six for my 1948 Dodge B-1-B pickup. We had to find a good engine block for that truck also and found one from 1952 that was rebuilt for my 1948 truck. So I have a 1952 motor in my 1948 truck and it runs and performs fine just as though it had an engine block from 1948. Imagine that!! All kidding aside, the serial number on an engine block doesn\'t matter that much if your not trying to build the 100 point show winner. However the serial number is very important to know that you have the correct engine for your vehicle but not the only way to identify an engine type. I can assure you this is a Chrysler 251 cu. flat head six that was used in many models of Mopar cars of that era.
Having no serial number on the block does offer the buyer the rare opportunity to have the block stamped or engraved with the correct number you need for your car. That\'s something to consider.
I prefer a local pick-up or shipping can be arranged through Yellow Freight shipping company for serious buyers only.
For an example of a shipping cost estimate, I called for a quote to ship the engine from Michigan to Houston, Texas and the cost was $310 with the engine picked up by the buyer at the shipping terminal there. An extra $119 for the engine to be delivered to a business or residence.
You will have to call Yellow Freight for shipping price quote from zip 49230. Approximate 560 lbs. Buyer will pay $30 for wood pallet and wrapping the engine for shipping. USA sales only.Thank you.
