Description

I am selling this 1946 Chevrolet 2 ton COE cab over truck, Model 5703. It has a clear WYOMING title in my name. The tag on cowl says "16,000 lbs gross" and 5PS 1 1066. It has the long wheelbase of 158". It is the 2nd series of truck built after the labor strike. The website says production was 4,135 but not real sure on that number. That may be all the wheelbase lengths, not sure. The engine is all there, it is free but not running right now. It was driven into the pasture and parked 50 years ago. The gas tank is no doubt rotten inside. There are no brakes of course. It needs totally restored. There is no rust out of sheetmetal or cab floor, but lots of dents and tears.

There are tears in both fenders, and weld marks. The grill/hood is pushed in about 3" on the bottom edge (see pic) and is missing the upper stainless bar. The lower grill area is missing all the vertical stainless bars. It has original 216 engine, turns freely. It appears to be the original wooden floor boards that lift out.....they fit real nice. There is a neat art deco heater. The windshield still tilts out w/ crank. The driver door is dented up bad around the window. Truck has all the door/window handles, but some are missing the plastic ends.

The body has many dents to repair, it was "rode hard and put away wet" as they say. New glass will be needed. There is a rusted out place on pass side of header panel above windshield...see close up pic. I don't believe the seat bottom cushion is correct, it looks like they just cut a hole in some cushion to get to the shift handle. It is a ONE SPEED REAR END. Truck has a complete POWER TAKE OFF w/ a gear on the end.

A bit of history: the truck was sold new at River Street Motors in Saratoga Wyoming to Oscar Priquet. It was traded for a new truck in 1955 and Mr Huston got it. He was going to convert it into a hay sweep but never did. It sat in the meadow for 56 years until recently. The tires still hold air, but are rotten. The truck was within a 100 mile radius of the dealer who sold it new for it's entire working life. It hauled mainly 10 gallon milk jugs from the Platte River valley to the dairies in Rawlins w/ a special made box. Then it did haul general freight for awhile.

The truck needs totally restored, but these are pretty rare trucks anymore. I can deliver on my trailer for a fee, please use my blue link "click here" to email me. Buyer is responsible for all transport, or you can come to Encampment, WY 82325 to pick up in person. Semi's can get right to it, not a problem. I am 40 mi s of I 80 , and 90 miles west of Laramie. Let me know if you need more pics or info on a great old truck.
