1950s Mentalists THE AMAZING GARCIAS Mind Readers RPPC Three Promotional Photos:
$27.72

For your consideration are three (3) Real Photo Postcards (RPPC) promoting THE AMAZING GARCIAS, a mid-century mind reading act, in which they dubbed themselves \"The World\'s Greatest Mentalists.\" These promotional photos/postcards list their contact information (on the reverse) as 3030 Linton Ave., Apt. 17 in Montreal, Canada (in the Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood). All of the divided back postcards bear the number, 6316. The photograph with the white background is signed, \"Bosch\" but I cannot find that name associated with a 1950s portrait photographer in Montreal. I got these cards in the mid- to late 1950s, when the Garcias appeared at a hotel in the Laurentian Mountains, The Castle des Monts in Ste. Agathe des Monts, where my parents and I often vacationed.I can\'t testify to whether or not they lived up to the title of \"The World\'s Greatest Mentalists\" but they did reach a modicum of fame, appearing on The Jack Paar Tonight Show on December 11, 1957, along with puppeteers Bill and Cora Baird, comedian Dody Goodman and actor/comedian Jonathan Winters and, as indicated below, at the Canadian National Exhibition a few years earlier. In researching the couple, I came across a note from author Neil Gaiman on the WHOSAY website. He wrote:

\"Looking at some old family photos. This . . . postcard wasfrom my Great-Uncle David Garcia, who, with his wife, my Great-Aunt Jean, wasThe Amazing Garcias, a mentalist act. It was sent to his sister in the UK, in1957.\" [The postcard to which Mr. Gaiman refers is in fact a composite of two of the postcards I am offering.]

Gaiman also found the mentalist team mentioned in an article from The Perry (NY) Herald of August 5, 1954, pointing out that they were appearing that Summer at the \"Toronto Exposition\" (that is, the Canadian National Exhibition), held that year from August 27th to September 11th..

CONDITION: EXCELLENT. Clean and bright very few signs of wear. MOUSE over the images for close-ups and a clear idea of their condition.
