<img Stratocaster June 1956 \"As close as one can get to the Real\"Brownie\"1956 FENDER STRATOCASTER NECK DATED XA-6-56,\"SISTER\" GUITAR TO \"BROWNIE\" ERIC CLAPTON\'S \"LAYLA\" GUITAR, VERY GOOD CONDITION, ORIGINAL WITH ORIGINAL TWEED CASE, TREM BAR, AND BACK VIBRATO COVER. VERY RARE. MADE BY THE SAME FENDEREMPLOYEEAND TEAM WHO MADE ERIC CLAPTON\'S \"BROWNIE\", \"LAYLA\" GUITAR,IN JUNE OF 1956. ******
I am calling this Instrument a \"Sister\" guitar to Eric Clapton\'s \"Brownie\" \"Layla\" guitar because according to Christie\'s sale House (who sold \"Brownie\" in 1999)the Neck date on \"Brownie\" was XA-6-56 and the body was Dated 6/56. (June of 1956).The Letters XA on the Neckare the initials of a Fender Employee.
The Instrument being presented here has the Exact Same Dates, as well as a very close serial number neck plateDate. \"Brownie\"\'s Neck plate number is 12073. This Instrument\'s is 12184.
Like Eric\'s \"Brownie\" this Instrument has Fretboard wear, but it plays Good and Fast with only a very slight indication of wear in the \"G\" position, and even then, all strings ring true. The intonation is right, the action is low, and moving allaround the fretboard is a breeze. Most of the fret wear ison the first few frets. I have posted close up picture viewsof these areas, as well as of the entire Neck.Of course eventually, new frets will be in order, but for now everything plays fine all over the neck. As I understand it, Eric refretted \"Brownie\" twice. The Frets on this instrument are the Original Frets. The Neck itself feels fantastic, a \"Soft V\". It has been well played but not abused. I saw an interview with Eric where he said \"What I would always look foron a Stratwas a maple neck that looked like it had been worn out.... You know.. it\'s like a restaurant. If there\'s lots of people in there, you know... it\'sgot to begood food. So... I just thought that if it had all those kind ofworn out patches, it meant it had been well-favored.\" As far as the sound thisBeauty puts out.. wow...incredible.I would describe it as Magical, crystal, bright, earthy and beautiful. And if you want to hear it rockin\', listen to \"Layla\". It isreally kind of stunning and unlike any other Strat I have heard. The Neck pickup has been rewound by one of the Best Luthiers on the planet. The Middle and Bridge pickups are stock from the factory. At some time in the past, a newer (the12th week of 1966) FenderVolume pot was added, the other 2 pots are stock from the factory and are dated to the 5th week of 1956. The Original 3 way selector switch is still installed. All controls function perfectly. The Tone pots really roll off the sound. All adjustment screws (Pickups, bridge saddles, etc.) work fine, as well as the Vibrato Bar/ Trem system. The Original \"Single line\" Kluson tuners work fineand are in Good condition. They have never been off the Instrument.Cosmetically there are numerous scrapes and marks here and there, which are visible in the pictures, but the Guitar also has a nice shine to it in many areas. The Original Tweed case is in Good condition. It is missing the 2 outer latches, the inside one is solid, as is the handle. It is structurallysound.I have posted many pictures to show as much detail and information as possible about this Very Rare and Beautiful VintageCollectable. Please look at all pictures closely ( Double click on picture for close up view, Triple Click on picture for Huge, Super Size view, Much More detail) and ask any questions I may have left out.Lee Dickson, Eric Clapton\'s guitar technician since 1979, thinks that Brownie is one of Clapton\'s greatest instruments of all time. In his opinon this Strat has \"...a wonderful sound...\" In a recent interview with Neville Marten for Guitarist Dickson said \"...I\'ve been very fortunate to play hundreds of Strats over the years...But that one [Brownie] for some reason, just had something...\"
