This is a 1958 Wheel Horse RJ58 or a 1959 Wheel HorseRJ59. Those 2 models were virtually the same. The decal on this one is missingso there is no way to tell which it was.
There is no engine or fuel tank.
The transmission works in all gears. It shifts easily. Itappears to have been rebuilt at some point because the seal behind the inputpulley looks like it was replaced. The axle bushings were probably replacedbecause the axles don’t have much slop like these older tractors usually have. Bothaxle key slots are damaged so each hub has an extra set screw installed. Thebolts used as set screws have had the ends tapered to resist mushrooming.
At some time in the past the steering on this tractor waschanged. The frame was modified to use parts from a 1960 or 1961 model steeringsystem. I recently installed a new adjustable steering link. This can be seenin one of the close up pictures. This actually works pretty well. You get theadvantage of the newer model gear reduction steering ratio that was not presenton the 58-59 models.
The clutch, brake band, and linkage all work ok. Theclutch arm has been repaired at some time in the past.
The rear section of the hood has been removed at some timein the past.
Both fuel tank straps appear to be in good condition ascan be seen in one of the close up pictures.
The rear hitch is missing.
The seat has been repaired at the center hole. There aresome rust pits in the seat surface. The seat is solidly mounted and usable.
The rear of the tool box has been repaired. The weld canbe seen on the inside only and is shown in one of the close up pictures.
Both front rims and tires appear to be from a Sears sospacers are required on the inside on each axle. The right front tire holds airbut has lots of age cracks. The left front tire holds some air but is split in2 places that you can see in the pictures.
Both rear rims good. Both rear tires are usable, and holdair, but have cracks from age.
This old tractor is mostly complete but has lots of mileson it. Most of the front end parts show lots of wear from use, as you can seethe front wheels are slightly leaning.
