<P>As everyone knows....Southern California with the car culture that changed the worldback in the \'drag strips everywhere\' days also spawned the Stingray bicycles bySchwinn in all their varied shapes and forms. The early ones are often highestregarded and when it comes to rare the springer super deluxes and fenderlessmodels are super hard to find. This bike started out as a J-38 original lime fenderlessblade fork bike that had been housepainted except from the fork....found by aCabe collector in the south US. With the addition of a 20\" Schwinnspringer the bike evolved to the J-33 model. Bike was repainted with an original can oftouch up Schwinn factory paint ...sold to be brush applied? or sprayed with a gunin 1/2 pint cans. There was barely enough of this very old original paint in the canto cover the bike. The paint was unstable and hard to work with, but coveragewent pretty well with only a few thin spots in not so noticeable areas. I will provide theempty Schwinn factory can to the new owner. I doubt many of these getpainted with the 50 year old original paint when restored...so definitely anovelty with this bike.Seat was professionally redone on the original smoothy pan, and has anNOS 3\" reflector. Pedals are NOS but possibly not correct for the year and model?Look very close. All the chrome was redone and looks good... Seat post wasnot replated. Front tire was an original NOS USA mfg Westwind that was a bitdry and difficult to mount on the wheel with some rubber on the bead crumblinga bit. Upon inflation it looks fine mounted. Rear tire is also a made in USASchwinn Slick, not a yellow oval unfortunately. Springer has the correct ASbolts but the steer tube is from a Krate bicycle so the early stems would notmount due to narrower diameter...a repro stem was used. I am sourcing thecorrect steer tube and year dated stem and will provide those to the new owneronce located.Frame date is late 1964 but bike featured all the early 65 changes as newand when found. Bendix brake hub and Schwinn script front hub. Nice originalchubby white grips. Cool looking bike and just about my favorite Stingrayincarnation.... There are a couple of paint chips near the brake strap andkickstand ...ran out of the NOS paint to do any after thought touch ups.Still looks great despite the minor issues. Badge is from GW who is anauthorized Schwinn Stingray repro parts dealer.
