Handmade in San Francisco, CA, in 1977 by luthier Ted Megas.
Approximately his third guitar ever, predating his renown as a builder of high-end jazz guitars, including his contribution to Scott Chinery\'s Blue Guitars.
Own a piece of Northern California and jazz guitar history. One of a kind. From the luthier:
\"That\'s it .. I think that was the 3rd guitar I made .. probably 1977 . It was featured in a showcase at Don Weirs Music City in North Beach San Francisco. Macassar ebony
and flamed birch. Abalone inlays .. originally had active tone circuits in stereo . No adjustable trussrod, just a solid steel bar in neck . It\'s very heavy! original finish was tung oil? How did you know it was mine? Ted\"Scratched into the underside of the cavity cover: \"X-1000 Guitar Custom Made by Ted Megas San Francisco 1977.\"
Comes with custom Calzone flightcase with vintage Dan Torres Guitars sticker.Hairline crack from body center seam through neck heel. Will require a neck reset or bolt-on conversion.
I believe the neck joint was compromised when the guitar was re-routed for the neck pickup (visit the Megas Guitars site for pictures of the instrument in its original form).
The action\'s on the high side but should be improved by either countersinking the bridge studs or shimming to correct neck angle.
This is an excellent candidate for repair or restoration.
Sold as is.
