Rare Silvered Center Antique Casino Chips from the most famous and elegant casino in the world, the Grand Casino at Monte Carlo which opened in 1856! First issued nearly a century ago, these beautiful, highly stylized chips feature a gorgeous mixture of both Victorian and Art Deco designs of the late 1800s/early 1900s. Nearly 100 years old, these are quite rare and some of the oldest and most sophisticated casino chips around! This famous Monte Carlo Casino was the favorite playground of many of the wealthiest and famous people of the world. It was not unusual to see Kings, Princes, Dukes, Countesses, famous actors, world renowned singers and millionaires of all types using these chips during the turn of the last century until the world wide depression of 1929. We have been fortunate to obtain most of the remaining known examples from a retiring chip dealer, and have a few dozen sets of the best examples to offer. We are offering these high franc denomination beauties in the following denominations: 5, 10, 20, 100 500 and the extremely rare 1,000, which could have bought a small house at the time of issue! A similar set sold for $360 in July of 1981 at the sale of the The Numismatic and Antiquarian Service Corporation of America, New York City. It was the only one offered. Monte Carlo did not issue its own currency and coins at the time, so these chips circulated just like coins both in and outside of the Casino. This is a wholesale offer as we wish to sell everything and are not interested in hoarding for investment. These should easily resell to double or triple your profits. All of our casino chips are guaranteed genuine, and come from a retiring dealer whose specialty was locating or building up exclusive hoards. Thus, most of these are either hard to find elsewhere or are now available only from us. These chips were hoarded in Europe for years and are the last of their kind, once these are gone, there will be no others offered by us.These have elegant Sterling silver filigree on both sides - Identical on both sides. The silver inserts are solid and weigh together weigh about a fifth of an ounce of silver.
