The Tin Man\'s Garage Inc. has had interest from many regarding selling copies of its signature set of Planishing hammer dies from participants throughout the history of teaching our metal shaping workshops. We have taught dozens of workshops demonstrating how to use the Planishing hammer efficiently with hobbiest and professionals throughout the industry.
This 27 piece lower die set is CNC machined in the U.S.A from S7 tool steel and hardened to 57 Rockwell. There is a complete set of 1.5\" diameter dies including radii; 3/4\", 1\", 1 1/4\", 1 1/2\", 2\", 3\", 4\", 6\", 9\", 12\", 24\", 36\", and 0. A complete set of 2.5\" diameter radius dies including radii; 3\", 4\", 6\", 9\", 12\", 24\", 36\", and 0. It comes with liner stretch dies for aluminum(1 1/2\" radius) and steel(1/2\" radius). It has a 1 1/2\" square die with different radii on each edge including 1/32\", 1/16\", 1/8\", and 3/16\". The set includes a rectangular die with a 36\" radius in the X axis and a 3\" radius in the Y axis. This complete set also comes standard with a square and rectangle die blank allowing custom dressing for custom applications.
Lower die dimensions fit CP hammer dimensions. The dies fit Mittler Bros. and C. Cook Planishing hammers.We also have universal weld in adapters to make your hammer fit this die set. Please inquire for more information.
We also have an indexing clamp avalible that indexes all square and rectangle dies quickly and easily with one bolt. Clearance has been engineered into the clamp design. Please inquire for details.
The die set polishing is a two step process. The first step is to run the dies in a vibratory industrial polisher to remove the discoloring after heat treating for 24 hours(as seen in photo in bottom of die image). The second step is dressing the die face surface by hand to 220 grit finishing with a light buffing polish(as seen in images). The die surfaces are true and individually checked for accuracy. Please note we do offer these to a mirror finish polish for shaping aluminum for an additional $500. Please inquire about details. Although we have found the finish that we provide is appropriate for most shaping and how we finish our dies in our production shop. The polished look disappears quickly after a few minutes of use.
