New Zealand Forage RAPESEED is a favorite brassica plant for deer food plots, it is also called summer turnip. It does well planted with clovers, chicory, and turnips. New Zealand Rape produces high quality forage brassica, with yellow flowers and adeep tap root that is very drought tolerant. Rape prefers well drained soils, not for use in a flooded, poor drainage, area. It prefers a ph range of 5.5 to8.3 ph. Approximately 145,000 seeds per pound.

ALFALFA is a herbaceous, perennial legume used for pasture, forage and wildlifefood plots. It has a high palatability and very good winter hardiness. It is atap-rooted, perennial plant, established plants will grow for many years. Thestems grow erect and reach a height of 2 to 3 feet with flowers that may varyin color from shades of purple, yellow and white. Alfalfa has a high yield, high protein content, and such prolific growth that it acts as an effectiveweed control, alfalfa is also valued in crop rotation and for soil improvementbecause of the nitrogen-fixing bacteria in its nodules. The several varietiesof the species grow well in most temperate regions except those with acid soilor poor drainage, adding lime is recommended for acid soils. The deep tap rootsmake it a good drought tolerant plant. There are approximately 200,000 seedsper pound, the recommended seeding rate is 12 lbs or more, per acre.

LADINO CLOVER is a quality forage seed for wildlife food plots. It does nothave to re-seed to grow from year to year, it grows and spreads from the rootsystem. This is why clover maintains high protein levels all year, and one ofthe reasons that it is highly recommended for food plots for whitetail deer. This clover grows in full sun to partial shade, grows 12-14 inches tall. Approximately 800,000 seeds per pound, broadcast 8 lbs. or more seed per acre.

MEDIUM RED CLOVER is a perennial that has rose-purple or magenta flowers, widelynaturalized in North America and frequentlyplanted as a forage or cover crop. Many people prefer Red Clover for wildlifefood plots for deer and turkey. Plant at 10 or more pounds per acre. Approximately 275,000 seeds per pound.

If a soil test in not available it is recommended to add lime.Cut grass and/or weeds as low as possible, or spray existing vegetation with an herbicide (i.e., Roundup) to rid the area of weeds and grasses. Follow the herbicide label directions and wait the required number of days before seeding. Clear debris to expose soil.If possible, rough up the area with a rake or other tool.Seeds just need soil contact to grow.Spread, broadcast seeds. DO NOT disc seeds into the soil or fence drag after broadcasting seeds, planting too deep will prevent germination, plant no more than ΒΌ inch, or plant un-covered.Do Not plant in hot-dry weather.
