5\" Battersea Works Round \"F\" Gold Mining Crucible Assay Morgan England Antique :
$49.99

This is my first time to own one of these! I had to ask my husband and son (who love the gold mining documentaries and reality shows) what it was. It is a gold mining crucible marked BATTERSEA ROUND and MORGAN ENGLAND. Very lightly you can see a larger letter F. It measures 5 inches tall, almost 3 inches across the top and almost 1 1/2 inches across the bottom. There is what appears to be a small metal nail that must be a stopper. It is made of a clay type of stoneware that has black flecks throughout and is glazed on the inside rather than the outside. It has some small chipping and cracks, but overall is in very attractive good condition. I think the cracks were likely firing cracks because I can see glaze coming through the one on the front, indicating it was fired that way. It appears to be in good, strong condition and is a lovely old historical gold mining piece.I think it has definitely been used in mining because at the very bottom inside, there are 4 sparkly flecks and some type of residue at the very bottom. I didn\'t try to clean it in any way - would rather leave that to the collector. In the next to the last photo I showed the interior bottom and even in the photo you can see at least one of the sparkles in the bottom. The letter F is very hard to see - you can easily see the horizontal part of the F because it is deeply indented, but it doesn\'t photograph well - the last photo is a close-up but it is hard to see in the photo.FREE SHIPPING!
