This is a rare bird that\'s been through some changes through the years. This is a 60\'s era Framus plectrum banjo (tuned either CGBD or DGBD)that was at one time modified (poorly) to be a 5-string. The 5th string tuner pulled out and left a crater. That\'s how we got it at an estate sale. The body and neck had been refinished in polyurethane and looked good. We filled the broken out hole with a mahogany plug and refinished the work area. It\'s a good solid repair but noticeable. The head was shot so we added a new Weather King and a new bridge and a vintage tailpiece.We also added a new truss rod cover but note this: THERE IS A TRUSS ROD BUT IT IS NON-ADJUSTABLE. There is a rod in the neck but it\'s static and was probably set when it was installed. It can be seen at the base of the neck and under the rod cover but there is no way to adjust it. The neck is stable and has a good set with decent relief. The action is good and fairly even over the entire neck. There is some adjustment available by shimming the neck at the body. The frets show minimal wear but there are a couple of tiny holes in the fret board from mini railroad spikes from its\' 5-string days. The banjo plays well and sounds good with nice projection and a good bark. The instrument is being offered with a quality NOS hard shell case. Thanks for looking......
