Water lilies have two main difference in growing habits between the hardy water lily and tropical water lily. The tropical water lily does not do well in the winter or cold temperatures. When the weather changes, it should be removed from the outdoor pond and stored in the moist conditions, only to come out when the weather warms up. On the other hand, the hardy water lily can tolerate the cold.
