African Fulani Weddng Blanket Hand Woven - PERFECT:
$454.99

This authentic Fulani tribal wedding blanket has been carefully stored for more than 35 years in a smoke-free home, keeping it in pristine condition. There are no rips, tears, holes, stains, wear, fading, or damage. It has never been walked on or displayed. Very rare to find this type of blanket inperfect condition. While described as “used”, it is really “new but 35 years old.”

You\'re not buying from an Internet store, but from the original owner. The truth is, I\'ve had this stored and it\'s time to find it a new home where it can be displayed and enjoyed.

When I first purchased it in the open air market inMopti (also called the Venice of Africa) in the 1970s, I bartered with a man who brought the blanket from the village in which it wasmade. To get to Mopti, I had to ride for about 8 hours in a cramped bush taxi, on the one paved road in Mali. It’s only 400 miles from Bamako (the capital) to Mopti and the drivers fly, but you have to figure in stopping at numerous checkpoints. So, I was at a bit of a disadvantage, tired, when I encountered the man selling the wedding blanket. Fortunately, I asked him how hecame to be selling it.

He looked surprised for a moment, then told me that his daughter had made it but before the wedding, the marriage negotiations fell apart. Should she find another man, she would make another blanket so she asked her father to sell it. I don’t know if this was true or just a story he thought would convince me to buy the blanket – whatever, it worked.

The large blanket measures 51” wide by 101” long (4’3” x 8’5”). It is 6 panels of hand-woven, hand-dyed wool, sewn together with a center braid and tassels on panels (all but one) & sides. Blanket features bright vibrant colors in a traditional pattern.

Photos of both sides of blanket provide detail on condition. Unless noted, photo is of the “right” (up/top) side of blanket. .

I always select US Postal Service shipping to provide the most cost-effective method for the buyer. However, should you desire faster shipping, please contact me after you buy butbefore you pay to arrange it.

Also, although I promise to mail within 3 business days, I usually get things out within 1 business day but don\'t want to promise that in case of life happening. But if 1 day turn-around is important, please let me know and I will do my best to make it happen.
