Antique 1-key flute by Goulding, London - boxwood, bone rings, silver key The key imprinted with the insignia of Prince of Wales
DEMO - Berbigieur Solo
DEMO - Pinky House by Nicholson
Made by Goulding & Co., London (1786-1834) this wooden flute could be from the period 1798-1803 - a classic English antique flute, in super nice condition. Beautiful boxwood with bone rings and silver keys. Beautiful patina on the wood. This flute has a particularly fine key (see photos). This flute is in almost perfect condition - missing the endcap. As far as I can tell it has had no cracks - all parts are there, original, and well-functioning. It has a sweet, easy playing sound. The flute plays at slightly above a=440 . It plays very well over the entire range. The first example contains the often difficult 3rd octave F-natural which is easy on this flute.
The symbol on the key is the symbol of the Prince of Wales - and used as such to this day. When this flute was made that would have been the future George the 4th. This was to signify that Goulding was his liscensed dealer of instruments.
If you are seriously interested in this flute I would be happy to demonstrate it and answer specific questions over Skype - please contact me.
