Antique American Civil War Sword US Sabre Model 1840 Etched CSA GEORGIA RIFLES

Authentic, Antique American Civil War sword, model 1840, saber, called the \"wrist breaker”.

Details: An extremely long, slightly curved, single edged, flat back steel blade, with a narrow and wide fuller. Etched against a matte background, the outer face with” CSA” banners, an eagle and foliage, the inner site etched “GEORGIA RIFLES” amongst foliage banner, and martial trophies. A hilt with a three bar brass guard, and brass pommel, a leather covered wooden grip with visible imprinted marks of the wire wrap. The sword is in its original steel scabbard with two suspension rings.

The sword does not have any American maker’s markings, or inspector\'s stamps, and also does not have any markings of the European sword makers, who exported swords to USA, the brass hilt, and the leather on grip, are not as thick, as are on the1840 pattern saber, which would indicate that this sword was made by one of the small manufacturers.

CONDITION: Age and usage is showing, lack of the wire wrap, the leather in the binding cracked, (shrunk from dryness) exposing the wooden core. The brass knuckle-guard slightly bent, with minor crack, the screws holding the mouthpiece of the scabbard are missing. The blade has some nicks.

Overall condition of this sword is very good considering its age of 100 years.

MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 110.3 cm (43 3/8 in). Length of the sword without the scabbard: 107.3 cm (42 1/4 in). Length of the blade: 92.1 cm (36 1/4 in).
