Antique Cedar Chest Made By The Standard Red Cedar Chest Company (Lane):
$250.00

This sale is for an antique cedar chest manufacturedby The Standard Red Cedar Chest Company of Altavista, Virginia.

Some research on the Internet revealed the followinginformation:

The Standard Red Cedar Chest Company was started in March1912 when John Lane bought a box plant in Altavista, Virginia. He encouragedhis son, Ed Lane, to begin manufacturing chests at the plant. The company produced cedar chests under thisname (The Standard Red Cedar Chest Company) from 1912 to 1918. In these early years, elementary manufacturingmethods limited the company’s production to about ten chests per day. In 1922, after World War I had ended, thename of the company was changed to The Lane Company, which continued to makecedar chests and other furniture.

The company’s name, \"The Standard Red Cedar ChestCompany, Altavista, VA\" is branded into the wood on the inside of the lid.

The inside dimensions of the chest are about 44 ¾“ long x17 ¾“ deep x 13 ½“ tall.

To be about 100 years old, the chest is in reasonablygood condition and is structurally sound.Cosmetically, the chest has multiple scratches, nicks, dings, dents, scuffs, and blemishes. It is not inpristine condition. Based on the way thechest has been made and assembled, I suspect that it is probably one of theearliest models this company manufactured. I would recommend that the buyer have the chestrefinished.

Attached are five ( 5 ) pictures of the cedar chest.

Because of its size and weight, no shipping is beingoffered. The chest is for local pickuponly.

Cash payment will be required at the time of pickup.
