This box is a very rare example of turn of the century English design. Very neat 4 lock mechanism (the keyed lock is broken on the latch ends). The 2 side latches are locked by sliding the bar left and then right, and then once centered you can lock with apadlock on theloop. As I described the middle clasp keyed locking latch clasp is broke on each hook (seen in the last photo). The latches are brass while all the other hardware is steel (painted gold and appears brass but is not).
The inside has a tag that reads the makers name and the town in England where they operated. Also the middle clasp has a biplane stamped on it. Besides the repaint and a few small dents and the locking latch issue the box appears in all original shape with all its hardware.
I believe a person who knows a bit about Braising and filing could repair the latch. All that would be needed is a key and one would have a seldom seen lock box.
One guess would be that this is a mail box when mail was transported by plane in the early years of 1900\'s. The box measures 21 1/2\" x 12\" x 7\" deep, it weighs just over 10 lbs. , Very nostalgic item for your consideration, questions are welcome, thank you
I will ship Internationally but please wait for a proper shipping invoice and remember there will be duties and taxes one will have to payand I don\'t know what those will be.
