To be honest - I have no idea what this is so buyers should use their own knowledge to asses the piece. The previous owner thought that it was a watchman\'s key station. I was skeptical at first but I suppose it may have sent a code back to a clock / recording device indicating that the watchman was in fact doing his rounds? I know that Howard made fire alarm apparatus to ring large church and and institutional bells so also thought that this may be a fire call box for use in mills etc?
I could only find one other example of these on line and the poster did not know what it was either.
