Offered for sale is an absolutely marvelous Rare Antique Edw. Vom hofe, \"RESTIGOUCHE\"6/0 freshwater/saltwater big game fly reelfrom9 Fulton St.N.Y. being 4 1/4\" wide, with Nickel Silver rims and crank handle in \"S\" shape, a wide spool (1 3/4\" wide), a full smooth foot, bronze bearing axil, with seven point adjustable drag, an ebonite crank handle, withsix pillars. At the center of the face plate is the 7 position adjustable drag and is marked;\" Edw. Vom Hofe, Maker & Patented Sept 2 1879\" On the back of the reel is the oil plate and is marked: \"Edward Vom Hofe, Maker, Pat. Jan. 23, 1883\"
We therefor marked the circa of this reel to be1879-1883. The reel is called the RESTIGOUCHE, named after the fabled Canadian salmon river.

This vintage Vom Hofe fly reel, (Maker),9 Fulton St.N. Y, Maker & Patented Sept. 2, 1879Salt Water Fly Fishing Reel, in truly excellent condition that works perfectly and is ready for immediate use! On the topside of the reel next to the foot where the reel attaches to the rod there is a number on there that states 6/0.
The provenance of the reel is from a private estate and is now available for sale.
This reel is a freshwater or saltwatersalmon fly fishing reel. This is the Restigouche model reel with an estimated circa of 1900 named after thefamous salmon river in New Brunswick Canada. Check out the Restigouche River Lodge where this reel was designed to land the trophy 30 lb. plus salmon that frequent this river.

This antique vintage reel would make a wonderful addition to that antique fly fishing reel collection when placed in a prominent position to the envy of all who observe! This reel is also in fishable condition.
Historically, the story begins with Julius Vom Hofe who made reels in Brooklyn. Edw. Vom Hofe was his nephew who set up his business at 9 Fulton St., N.Y. in 1879When Julies died or retired,Edw. Vom Hofe remained in Brooklyn for some time, estimated to be 1938.
