FRENCH S.F.B.J. DOLL

Exquisite 23” tall S.F.B.J. bisque-head girl doll with articulatedcomposition body, closing black glass eyes, open mouth with six molded upper teethand pierced ears.

Marks on back of the neck read: S.F.B.J. Paris10. The doll company S.F.B.J.(Societe’ de Fabrication de Be’be’s & Jouets), was established in 1899, andthe number 10 mark on the back of neck probably represents mold number. Thus,the doll is probably over one hundred years old as suggested by the low moldmark number 10.

The doll has clothes with cotton pantalettes and dress, plusbeautiful, elaborate period satin head-dress with lace. Short hair wig isattached to the head-dress.

Composition body includes articulated limbs at shoulders,elbows, wrists, hips and knees. Squareopening on back of composition body reveals joint cables. It is possible thissquare opening may indicate previous repair procedure. The right upper limb shoulder tends to raise armoutwards after handling the doll, and can be easily corrected when it happens.
