Up for consideration is anAntique GSB Wooden Steam Arch Top Violin Case...this is an amazing case with lots of mojo...two old California and Stanford pennant stickers are on the top lid...this case has a fixed leather strap that is in good condition and still buckles...a little movement on the handle...the wood is in great structural condition...Case measures 31 1/4\" x 9 1/2\" x 4 1/2\" (arch) 3 1/4\" (nose)...the overall look of this case has a great feel and history to it...below is a little info on the maker...

Steam-BentArched Top of a G. S. B. Violin CaseG.S.B.cases are always made of solid wood, either basswood or poplar. Thearched tops for violin cases are one-quarter-inch-thick solid woodthat is steam-bent in a metal mold. Thus extreme arches for the toplid could be achieved. The failure rate was high, however. The sidesof G.S.B. cases have rounded ends that are steam-bent then spliced tothe straight sides. Other case builders used splines or other joinerytechniques. It illustrates the difficulty of making a curved casefrom solid wood.\"GeorgeS. Bond, a manufacturer of Charlestown, was born in that town, March2, 1837, son of Silas and Alice (Abbot) Bond...[In 1880] he boughtout the violin case manufactory that had been established inCharlestown. There was but little work done here at first, and heemployed but one man. Subsequently he had to enlarge the place, andin 1893 he had forty hands in his employment and was using a fiftyhorsepower engine. In that year the factory was burned. Eleven weekslater his substantial new factory was ready for business. He has nowa sixty horse-power engine, and he employs from twenty-five tothirty-five hands. The factory is said to be the best equippedestablishment of its kind in the world, having a capacity oftwenty-four dozen violin cases per day. Mr. Bond has dealings withsome of the largest firms in this country...\"
