Available for offerding is an interesting antique Japanese Kano school four-panel silver leaf byobu screen.
Circa1865 - 1875late edo / early Meiji period, Japan.
Artist unknown. Hand painted peony andlFlower design on silver, which has oxidized to it\'s mineral content of iron? Perhaps the artist didn\'t complete the painting?I am truly uncertain the history of this screen.Framed in the traditional manner of black lacquer, brocade border, printed back paper which has peeled and torn.
Description on back about age and Kano school, Kano Masanobu (1434-1530) an influential school of painting in Japan over 300 years old.as well as a lot of writing which I do not understand.
Each panel measures 17 3/4 \" wide x 27 3/4 \" long.
The screen is primarily silver leaf, but one side almost seems like gold leaf. The photos were taken with natural light and no color reflections, perhaps it has both?Kano artists/studentsexperimented with many different techniques of expression.The ambiance of the panels changes dramatically indifferent lighting.Silver panels were rare in Japan and not as common as gold leaf panels.
