This antiquethread winder is made of sycamore wood and wasmanufactured by the W. & A. Smith Co in Mauchline Scotland. Oneside has a transfer design of Abbotsford and the other side has thename. This is an historic house in the Scottish Borders and was thehome of Sir Walter Scott.
It isin excellent condition withno cracks or chips and the varnish is smooth and intact. It measures 25/8\" by 1\".This is the actual winder thatwas photographed for the top plate on page 44 of Diane Pelham Burn\'sbook, ThreadWinders, A Collectors Guide and was formerly in hercollection.
