This is an original antique coin operated machine. 

It is Model S SMF-1 as shown on the brass nameplate on the front.

This is the full size model, made for adults and takes standard reels. It has a neat feature whereby light shining through frosted glass illuminates the marquee sign.

Overall this is a nice Mutoscope in working condition with an original antique reel. It is ready for use in your favorite game room! Works fine right now.  

It sits on a custom wooden stand which can also be used to store an extra reel underneath. This stand is much lighter than the cast iron Mutoscopes and it has tri-rollers so this Mutoscope very easy to move around the house. 

Over the years several parts have been replaced or repaired. The marquee is a replacement. The Mutoscope has been cleaned and repainted green. (I think it was originally painted red.). The locks are new. One of the castings was cracked was repaired. The light bulbs and some wiring have been replaced.

It operates on a nickel and has the coin drawer.

This reel included is # 7375 an stars Ham and Bud as “The Ghost Hounds”.  They are two scared guys as they think they see a ghost and eventually jump out of the window! A Mutoscope is a coin operated, hand cranked, all mechanical animated picture movie machine. When you insert a nickel and turn the crank, a light bulb illuminates to reveal a reel of still photos that flash or flicker one by one in front of the magnified viewer into which you look. Over 800 still photos with blank cards in between them are on the Mutoscope reel. Introduced in 1895, the Mutoscope was one of the most popular and profitable machines in the penny arcade. To this day, mutoscopes are considered icons of the bygone era of Penny Arcades.
