This specimen is from the Chinle formation in northeastern Arizona, an area famous for its varied and brilliantly colored petrified wood. It dates back to the Triassic era and is of the extinct species of tree, araucarioxylon Arizonicum. The different colors are due to the different minerals present during the petrification process.Thispiece has good color, and would be nice in any water feature.It weighs about2 lb.4 1/2oz., and measures about3 1/2\" x3 1/2\" x3\", very roughly.It was photographed both wet and dry, and photos 1 & 2 show the wet/dry comparison.
