Up for sale is this Black Forest barometer. It is dark brown, perhaps walnut, and elaborately carved. The back has wood covers. The barometer can be adjusted through a small hole in the back of the barometer without removing the wood covers that are tacked on.This is a wonderfully decorative piece of Black Forest style carving. I have found nothing to give me a hint as to the maker or the age.
As for the workings of the barometer, it seems that it is working but probably needs adjustment. The thermometer looks undamaged but I don\'t think it is recording the correct temperature. The red liquid inside the glass tube does not seem to have moved.
I purchased this impulsively at an sale but shortly thereafter I bought an early stick barometer with an interesting provenance which is why this one is for sale.
It is 21 inches in length.
