c. 1968 Domino Goldfoil Fender Telecaster style vintage Japanese Guitar Teisco BizarrePlays - but being sold as for parts / non-working.This item is being re-listed due to a problem with the previous purchaser which was beyond our control. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Late 60\'s Domino (probably Kawai/Teisco factory) goldfoil Telecaster! This is the little guitar that could. We originally received this guitar as a parts guitar for stripping and recycling the parts for repair on other guitars, but we kept putting it off, and putting it off and thinking \"you know, that little guitar is kind of cool\" - and the next thing you know we got to tinkering with it, and got it playing, and now we don\'t have the heart to strip it for parts, but it doesn\'t quite meet our criteria for a good used guitar, so we are selling it as \"for parts/non working\". Turn it into a project, or strip it for parts if you must. It has potential, but we don\'t have the time for this one.
23.6\" short scale neck - 10\" radius - it plays. It needs a refret. There are no fret outs, but a little buzz on the 5th fret of the high E, and the 2nd fret of the low E. Not noticeable when plugged in. We did give it a new zero fret to get it playing. Truss rod works. With a refret, might play nice. Or just use it to play slide maybe?
Body is in good condition surprisingly. Very few scratches or dings. Lovely kind of Lake Placid metallic blue. There is one significant chip out on the headstock (photographed) which has been lightly touched up with a near matching metallic blue.
Electronics: Pickups work! Low impedance goldfoil sound. 3.75k at the bridge, and 3.69k at the neck. Very nice! Optimally they should be shimmed a little closer to the strings for a little more bite. They are not height adjustable. Switches work just fine. Tone works. Volume pot works like an on/off switch at the moment. You don\'t want to turn these pickups down anyway. (At buyers request, we will install a new volume pot before shipping).
Hardware is a bit rusty. Some of the chrome has flaked off the bottom of the bridge pickup. Neck pickup looks nice (we actually buffed this one, just to see if it would shine up - it did). Tuners work, but are yellowed and somewhat cracked with age. Looks ugly, but plays. Tremolo works, but is missing the arm.
Overall this is a playing guitar that with some TLC could be very fun. It has that Telecaster vibe, but also that Japanese bizarre quality to it. It\'s thin and lightweight (unlike a telecaster!) and with a little work (say: new Bigsby style tailpiece, shim up the pickups, and a refret) could be a really great little player.
...and look, I got through the listing, and this whole thing without saying \"Ry Cooder\". (Whoo-hoo! Goldfoils! Ry Cooder! Ry Cooder!)
Ships from Japan. This guitar is light(!) - shipping is $70 to the US, all other countries please inquire.----
