CONN VICTOR B “Early Model”

Vintage Trumpet

This is a Conn Model 6B Victor professional level trumpet Ser. # 573475 in two tone polished brass with nickel valve casings and trim and clear acid resistant LUSTRE-CONN finish. It has a high quality brass bell with the ornate Conn logo engraving design on bell. Included are the original Victor case, lyre, original Conn # 4 and #5 mouthpieces, a cleaning brush and a bottle of Conn valve oil.

Purchased new in 1956 I am the original and sole owner. This instrument can best be described as having been used but not abused. It has recently undergone a complete overhaul, and is in excellent playing and mechanical condition. It was professionally cleaned inside and out, valve alignment checked, all slides checked and lubricated, new valve springs, corks, felts, and water key corks installed.

As with any instrument of this vintage and use, it has a number of small dents, dings and scratches, some brass and nickel wear-off in the normal locations consistent withregular use. Otherwise, it is in very good if not above average condition for a fifty five year old horn.

This “Early” Victor B is characterized by its bright, clear, and very penetrating big volume and full sound similar to a Connstellation with the big bell, but a little more traditional sounding with easy and open upper register... loud if you push it and oh so lyrical and sensitive when you back off. Many believe this is a much more versatile horn than the Connstellation.

The "Early" model 6B Victor is different from the later model 10B in many ways, to the point the two versions are almost entirely different instruments. Besides having a brass bell and lead tube the 6B has bottom spring valves, a fixed third slide ring, a "normal" wrap and different bore taper. The 6B Victor "early" model was produced from late 1955 to 1957 and has a #1 bore (0.433") and features bottom sprung click less Crysteel valves with the conical shaped springs, that are clean, fast, light, and quiet. Length 21 3/4", weight 2 lbs. 12 oz., bell diameter 5 1/8".
