Interesting Bits: Very pretty, beautifully designed and expertly executed, very seldom seen, SouthWestern Style Dragonfly .925 Sterling silver brooch/pendant/necklace by reknowned designer jeweler Carolyn Pollack. This is an earlier piece and not of the style of the newer heavier designs of Carolyn Pollack, but more true to Native American designs that were her inspiration. A 13x8mm oval purple amethyst cabochon is straight-walled bezel-set as the body of this lovely dragonfly with simple stamped patterning on wings and tail and with curvy antennae above button silver eyes. The SouthWestern design style pays homage to the brilliant Navajo silversmiths who created/and still create butterflies, turtles, frogs in this recognizable and charming style. The Sterling silver is polished and gleaming. The safety catch works perfectly on the brooch clasp. The necklace conversion is simply a Sterling chain thread through the clasp and is easily removed. Carolyn Pollack often draws upon the rich Native American design and silversmithing tradition and overlays her own beautiful, contemporary design vision in her jewelry. The effect is nearly always stunning; in her all handmade, beautifully executed pieces -- wonderful SouthWestern jewelry -- a treat to wear. This piece is no exception. Looks great on.
