Carving Machine
No carving skills?
No cnc?
Not a problem
Whether you are a serious wood worker or just a weekend hobbyist this machine is a major time saver. With a carving duplicator anyone can instantly become a master craftsman. This device is set up so that the router will follow the stylus's ( the adjacent metal rod) every movement precisely. In most cases it is difficult to make a mistake if you use caution and make gentle movements across the template.
To duplicate a carving you will first need to mount a template and wood block adjacent to each other on a table. As you trace the contours of the template with the stylus you will soon see an exact replica emerge on the other side.
AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE VIDEO THE MACHINE GLIDES EFFORTLESSLY. THE CARVING WAS FINISHED IN 10 MINUTES WITH SOME VERY LIGHT SANDING AT THE END. Sorry I don't have any footage of it in action because cause I didn't want the dust to ruin my new camera.
The sample piece in the video/photograph is carved in
hardwood and used to be an aluminum dust cover that went on a dirt bike. Although I
was able to achieve tight tolerances on this piece without mounting the
machine or work-piece to a table, I do recommend that you fasten it
down otherwise the work piece could shift out of position.
The machine glides like a cloud as the bearings installed in the hard urethane wheels give it a smooth-quiet travel across the Y axis. The router carriage movement can be described as a tight and effortless, as the two bearing housings( each containing three bearings) converge around a precise 1" D.O.M. shaft locking the carriage in place. Despite their appearances, the linear style bearings on this machine have been accurately machined and are as smooth and precise as conventional linear bearings. In some instances the roller bearings are actually better than regular linear bearings being that they are less expensive to replace and won't clog with dust.
You can install different stylus's to match the various router bits you will use. I find that for most applications I will end up using a 1/2 inch flat or 1/2 inch round-nose bit. If you want to achieve finer detail you can install a 1/4 inch flat/round-nose and matching stylus. I will include the 1/2 inch stylus, but if you have the need for finer detail there is a 1/4 inch threaded hole in the shaft where you can insert a wooden dowel to match almost any type of bit.
Specs:
