REAL DEAL CIVIL WAR BOWIE KNIFE! Measures 13 7/8\" overall. The blade being 9\" and marked Edward Barnes and Sons with a clipped point and 5 3/8\" false edge. It has a brass hilt with eagle and shield at pommel end, scrolls, foliage and 26-27 stars on each side and german silver guard. Examples of this Civil War Bowie can be found on Pg. 415 of the Bowie Knife Book by Norm Flayderman, I have included two pictures from the book.The brass handle is cracked and has old repair but is very stable and tight with no movement. This bowie is fresh from a local estate and had been in the family for well over 100 years. It was said to have been picked up on a battlefield in Virginia before the turn of the century and as you can see from pictures, the blade is fairly pitted on one side while the other remains in much better condition. I guess this knife could be union or confederate and a great example of civil war history. See pictures for condition andplease contact me with any questions.
